Been switching between these three shows all day. Skins, I’d been watching from the first generation, and since it’s one of the few shows I get to enjoy alone (because no one else close to me watches it), I take my time watching it. If need be, I get to pause a couple of minutes into an episode to do something else without feeling bad. One episode can last me an entire day if I’m busy enough. I’m not as fond of this generation (I swear, my interest in the gang decreases by the generation), but the story lines are a whole lot less heavy than the previous ones. Less hatred running in their families, less dark futures ahead of them, and the gang just generally gets along more than before. Everyone was always just not really friends with everyone else before, it was almost surprising they were put together in one show. This season looks promising, especially with the new characters they’ll be adding in the following episodes.
You can thank Tumblr for my newfound addiction to Shameless (browsing back, though, I can’t seem to find which one of you kept posting things about the show that got me curious enough to try it out). The family dynamic, their friendships, and how everyone just generally supports everyone else in every way possible. I expected the children to be total douchebags (I read it was based on a UK show, so the first thing that came to mind was Skins, which is essentially a gang of douchebags who have only hate for the world, sort of), pushing aside everyone else’s needs to fulfill theirs, but it was the complete opposite. It’s kinda heavy, given how dysfunctional their family is, but they manage to squeeze in some light-hearted humor when the drama’s not too overwhelming.
Finally, you can thank Shameless for my even newer-found love for Suburgatory. One of the characters on Shameless (Mandy, who I was very fond of, sadly) went through an actress change when the show transitioned into its second season, so I took to Wikipedia to see why. Turns out, from being an every-other episode character that had six to ten lines per episode at best, she was given her own show: Suburgatory. It’s about a girl and her dad moving from the hustle and bustle of city life smack into the center of quiet suburban life, almost as if they’d moved right into Stepford. It runs twenty minutes per episode, and is definitely the lightest of the three shows. Light humor, easily likable (though not necessarily attractive) characters, and the episode’s always over before it gets dragging.
And, I’ve managed to come up with yet another TL;DR post about the most trivial of topics. I’ve been getting pretty good at it, haven’t I?
