I checked back on my MegaUpload file manager to see how far along the file’s gone, and man, there are a lot of Young Avengers fans out there. It was such a pleasant surprise <3 So since I read in a few blogs that they couldn’t get the.cbz file to open, HERE is the untouched .zip file with all the original .jpeg scan files inside. Continue enjoying :) P.S. I’m really glad you guys aren’t complaining about the shitty quality of the scans. I have NO IDEA how the legit guys do it, and make them look all pretty and fixed and all that. Currently Reading: Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #8 The whole comic was pretty exhilarating, as you can imagine. It’s probably the climax of the entire series. The whole time I was reading, all I kept thinking about was how one of them was going to die, and the whole issue ultimately led up to that. Like a true suspense novel, they saved the death scene for the last page. They dropped a couple of hints as the story unfolded, making you sort of guess all the while who of the kids was about to go bye-bye. It wasn’t who I had hoped it wouldn’t be, but it’s pretty heartbreaking nonetheless. For those of you who care, here’s a little hint: it isn’t either of the original four. I was about to post the death scene, but I figured it wouldn’t be fair to anyone. So instead, let me just post my favorite scene from the book, which is probably the most intense mother/son scene between these two as of yet. I mean, just look at it. It’s so perfectly drawn! Kudos to Jim Cheung, Mark Morales, and Justin Ponsor for the amazing drawings, and of course, to Allan Heinberg for the whole story. I really hope things still work out, eventually. Comic Book Wednesday. This CBW is probably going to be the most exciting one for me this December. For one, I’ve been looking forward to a couple of releases this week from both Marvel and DC. I’m seriously just reeling with excitement as I type this all down. Two of my Top 3 DCnU reboots ship today: Teen Titans and Justice League Dark. There hasn’t been much story yet in either, as the characters are still being slowly introduced, but I’m really enjoying the dynamic in each of the groups. Tim’s already teamed up with Cassie and Miguel, and has Skitter in custody, Bart and Solstice have just escaped from N.O.W.H.E.R.E., and as I’m guessing, everyone’s just on a collision course with Connor, who’s out to put them all down. I really hope they all finally see each other in this issue. Over on the JLD side, Constantine finds Zatanna, Deadman and June Moon find Enchantress, Madame Xanadu, who in #2 is hinted to be using Enchantress as her tool to put the rest of the JLD team down, finds Shade, Shade finds Mindwarp, and then has a random encounter with Constantine. Really, you gotta read it to appreciate it. It’s got a pretty thrilling story, despite all the character introductions. Over on the Marvel side, *drum roll* Avengers: Children’s Crusade #8 will finally ship! I’ve been waiting for this for months! For those of you who don’t know, the story revolves around the Young Avengers’ search for the Scarlet Witch, which eventually puts the Avengers at odds with the X-Men. It’s a really fast-paced story, not to mention, detrimental to the three story-line continuities. They say this issue will see the death of an Avenger, and that #9 will see a newly lined-up Young Avengers. It’s tearing me apart that one of them might die. I can’t imagine any of them dying :( Uncanny X-Men #3 also ships today, a week after it was initially planned to ship. So you Cyclops Team followers, today’s the day to grab your copies :) It’s always such an exciting feeling, finding a package, or even just a letter (or billing statement) addressed to you in the mail. It’s always been such a delight for me to go through the mail, through all the letters addressed to either my dad, my mom, or my brother, and find a surprise envelope with my name on it. Everything I’d ever bought from eBay (or anywhere else online) used to pass through customs. It meant that the item would have to be stored in the post office, which in turn would send me a notice for pick-up. I always hated this process as, upon pick-up, the corrupt officials at the customs office would charge you an arm and a leg in tax just to retrieve your item. Everything I saved in shopping online and free shipping, I more than made up for by paying taxes. It’s been different recently, though, and it’s only made me even more pleased to get mail. As with my last comic book that came in the mail, the package that arrived today was delivered straight to my doorstep. My mom called me while I was getting ready for work, and needless to say, she made a giddy little boy of me when she waved the package in the air. I practically threw myself down the stairs.
Finally, Volume 1. I’ve been very patient, shooting down ever urge and temptation to rip through the covers of Volume 2. I kept telling myself it was pointless to spoil myself with it. Next hurdle: opening the packaging the book came in. I’m such a sucker for it, I can’t help it. It just looks so pristine! Purchased these bad boys at Comic Odyssey after work yesterday. I was in work swag, complete with my leather shoes, slacks, work bag, and jacket. I felt like such a geek. I kept thinking I was Hiro the whole time I was rummaging through the new releases. Oh, dear, what have I become? Remember that annoying time when all I’d post for days on end were vain, shirtless (there Daniel, thanks for the reminder) Photo Booth photos, accompanied with not-so-witty one- or two-liners about what I was up to? Yeah, well, those days are back! MWAHAHAHA! SIKE. Hell no. This is merely a result of the bad combination of a need for me to update my slowly rotting Tumblr, and a need for me to take a photo with my new baby before I tear off the protective wrap so I can start reading. Been reading a whole lotta comic books these past few weeks. It’s becoming something of an addiction. Better this than cigarettes and drugs, right? My parents must feel so lucky. |
Been waiting for this issue for as long as I can remember, and just as eagerly as all the other Young Avenger fanboys and fangirls out there.
Without spoiling anything, let’s just say that the series didn’t end quite like how I expected it to. It’s definitely longer than the previous issue (whose only purpose was to establish the death of Cassie, I’m guessing), and there’s a whole lot more story involved. We see a different side of different characters in the X-Men-related world, too, namely Cyclops and Madrox.
One little tidbit, though, to keep you all on the edges of your seat…
Only four members of the Young Avengers remain.
DUN DUN DUUUUUUN!
